Application Procedures

The first step is to decide if you want a career in Education as a teacher. Those who would like to work in other educational fields are also welcome to apply. For example, anyone who wants to be an early childhood educator, youth worker, community development worker, Native language specialist, distance education coordinator or curriculum designer would benefit from taking this program.

If one of these careers interests you, the second step is to contact Katie Brown and request an application package. Be sure to include full mailing address and your home and work telephone numbers in your email message.

After you receive the application package, the third step is to look at the package and call Katie if you have any questions (Toll free @ 1-800-465-3626, ext. 249).

The fourth step is to follow the checklist and to complete the admissions documents which include getting official transcripts showing courses or programs taken at secondary and post-secondary institutions. Official academic records (transcripts) must be requested from each university, college, Aboriginal institute (for example:  Wahsa Distance Education Centre) or board of education attended and mailed directly from the institution to Katie Brown at NNEC.

The fifth step is to begin discussing your plans with family members and others who will be able to give you support during those times when you will be out of the community taking courses and practice teaching in provincial schools. This program is very demanding not only academically but personally. You will be working full-time or part-time and during this time you will be required to complete assignments along with meeting your family and job responsibilities. These are things you must consider before making the commitment that is required for success in this program.

Please contact Katie Brown for an Application Package

* Preference will be given to community members working in schools. However, this is not a compulsory requirement.
